Origin of Bitcoin unit names and nicknames
Bitcoin follows a decimal-based system which accounts for the naming conventions for most of the popular bitcoin denominations. Two of the smallest but still referenced units, Finney and Satoshi, are references to significant figures in the creation of bitcoin.
- Finney – Hal Finney worked on the original bitcoin code and received the first bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto.
- Satoshi – Satoshi Nakamoto is the name that was used by the person or people who created bitcoin. The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is unknown.
